Buy My Freedom was built for people working hard to get out of debt. We believe you deserve tools that respect your privacy and your dignity. We will never exploit your financial data, show you ads, or use dark patterns. This privacy policy is written in plain language because you deserve to understand exactly how your information is handled.
1 Overview
Buy My Freedom ("the App") is a financial freedom planning application developed and operated by Tech Build Dreams LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). The App helps users track debts, manage fixed costs, and build a plan to become debt-free.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
The App is designed with a privacy-first architecture. Your sensitive financial data is stored locally on your device by default, and we collect only the minimum information necessary to provide you with a functional, helpful experience.
2 Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and an encrypted password. This is used solely for authentication purposes so you can securely access your account.
Financial Data (Stored Locally)
Your debt balances, interest rates, payment history, fixed costs, and freedom plan calculations are stored locally on your device using an encrypted local database. This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly choose to back it up.
Freedom Letters & Voice Notes
Your freedom letters (letters to your future self) and voice notes ("My Why" recordings) are stored on your device by default. Freedom letters may optionally be backed up to our secure cloud storage if you explicitly opt in. We never read, analyze, or share the content of your letters or voice notes.
Camera & Bill Scanning
When you use the bill scanning feature, your device camera captures an image which is processed entirely on your device using on-device text recognition (Google ML Kit). The image is not uploaded to any server. Extracted text is used only to pre-fill debt information and is not stored after processing.
Device Information
We may collect basic device information (device type, operating system version) for the purpose of delivering push notifications and ensuring app compatibility. We do not track your location, browsing activity, or any behavior outside of the App.
Payment Information (Pay It Forward)
If you choose to leave a voluntary "Pay It Forward" tip, your payment is processed securely by Stripe. We never see, store, or have access to your credit card number or payment details. Stripe handles all payment processing in compliance with PCI DSS standards.
3 How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information we collect for the following purposes only:
To create and secure your account so only you can access your data.
To send Freedom Reminders before payment due dates (only if you opt in).
To show anonymized, aggregate progress across all users (total debts paid off, etc.).
To fix bugs and improve the app experience. We never analyze personal financial data.
4 What We Will Never Do
These are firm commitments, not marketing language:
- Sell your data to third parties, data brokers, advertisers, or anyone else
- Show you ads — especially not financial product ads to people working through debt
- Share your personal financial information with lenders, credit agencies, or financial institutions
- Use dark patterns to trick you into sharing more data or auto-enrolling in anything
- Read your freedom letters or voice notes — your personal reflections are yours alone
- Gate core features behind a paywall — the app works fully and completely for free
5 Third-Party Services
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the App. Each is used for a specific, limited purpose:

6 Data Storage & Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- Your financial data is stored in an encrypted local database on your device
- Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure keychain/keystore
- All network communication uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Cloud-backed data (optional letter backup) is stored with industry-standard encryption at rest
- We follow the principle of least privilege — each service only accesses what it needs
7 Your Rights
You have full control over your data. Here's what you can do at any time:
Request a complete copy of all data we hold about you.
Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.
Disable Freedom Reminders at any time in Settings.
Enable or disable cloud backup for freedom letters at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information below. We will respond within 30 days.
8 Children's Privacy
Buy My Freedom is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately and we will promptly delete it.
9 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or via email before the changes take effect. We will always keep an updated version available at this page.
Our core commitment to never sell your data, never show ads, and never exploit your financial information will never change. Those promises are not policy — they're principles.
